Mumbai, Aug. 17 -- Solution to traffic woes at Vashi bridge may finally be on the cards. The construction of another bridge near the existing one, stuck for two years for a lack of funds, can finally take off, with the public works department (PWD) agreeing to finance it.
With the Sion-Panvel highway widened to a 10-lane road, the six-lane Vashi bridge has become a major traffic bottleneck.
In a recent meeting with the PWD, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Ltd ( MSRDC), which is supposed to build the new bridge, has succeeded in getting funds for it.
"PWD has assured us of funding the project. We will invite t enders soon," said MSRDC managing director Anil Diggikar.
