KHARGHAR: After a lull of around two months, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) on Wednesday resumed its demolition drive against structures built by project-affected people.
A node-wise list of 218 illegal structures in Navi Mumbai and Panvel was recently published in the newspapers and a 10-day notice period given to owners of such buildings.
Although the project-affected have termed them need-based, the planning agency said that the structures were built after December 2012 and do not qualify as need-based.
On Wednesday, a ground plus four storey building at plot number 140 in Sector 19 of Kharghar was demolished in the drive.
There was strong opposition from locals, including women, to the drive. The police detained several people including PWP leader Balaram Patil to prevent any untoward incident. Around 70 police personnel were deployed for the demolition action.
Cidco special officer, controller of unauthorised constructions, Manohar Menon, said: “We had served Datta Janu Thakur a notice under MRTP Act. The construction was illegal and we had to take action against it as he did not demolish it himself.”
When the planning agency started demolition of illegal structures in May, the projectaffected had strongly opposed Cidco’s action. There were violent protests and opposition to the move. It became difficult as political leaders were backing the project-affected people.
Menon said that they confir med it that the structure was built after December 2012.
“This was based on the decision of the committee, formed after the meeting between our managing director and sangharsh samiti of the PAP,” he said.
He said that the plot had been reserved for allotment under 12.5% scheme to the PAP as per the eligibility criteria that will be decided by our estate department.
He said: “The building was constructed without any sanction. Even the land had not been allotted.”
Menon said: “We will continue with our drive as notices have been served to 218 constructions. Our next action will be in Sector 27 of Kharghar on Thursday.”
Earlier after violent protests during demolition drives, Cidco joint managing director V Radha had said that they would not tolerate any encroachments.
“First information reports will be lodged against Cidco, NMMC or other government department officials and private individuals who in any way support any illegal construction,” she had said.
These days people are taking the housing loan to complete their dream and because of that public and private sector banks as well as financial institutions are earning a lot of profit just by distributing housing loan to those who are interested in buying residential property. So if you are planning to buy home and you are short with budget, so better to take the housing loan but before that it is recommended to compare the interest rates of different banks.
