Submit ideas on how to make city smart :Hindustan Times

NMMC, which boasts of well-managed infrastructure, looks at further upgrading its services

CBD BELAPUR: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has asked the city’s residents to send in their suggestions on the smart city project in which the satellite city is competing. The last day for submissions is July 22.
Residents can send in their suggestions in writing to the municipal commissioner at the new NMMC headquarters in sector 15A of Belapur.

They can also email to smartcity@nmmconline.com.

The NMMC general body in its last meeting on July 10 approved a resolution put forth by the municipal commissioner to enable Navi Mumbai to compete in the race for the project that will ensure all-round development of the city.
Every state government has to evaluate all cities/ towns based on these criteria and nominate the top performers as per the number assigned to each state.
“Navi Mumbai is well-known all over as a modern city that provides 24x7 water supply, has state-of-the-art infrastructure in terms of sewage system, solid waste management and other such civic amenities,” said municipal commissioner Dinesh Waghmare.

“We have won several national and state level wards over the years for the same. In order to further upgrade our infrastructure and provide even better services and raise the standard of living of our residents, NMMC has decided to participate in the central government’s smart city project,” he added.

In the first phase, 10 cities from Maharashtra will be selected, said Waghmare.
It is in this context NMMC has asked residents to submit their ideas on civic services and amenities.

As per t he Operational Guidelines for Smart Cities Mission states have to nominate the assigned number of cities and towns based on four broad criteria and a total of 13 sub-criteria.

Hundred smart city nominations received from all the states and Union Territories in the country will be put through Stage-2 of the competition.

The selection will be based on an elaborate criteria before funds are released to the top 20 cities and towns under the project during the current financial year.

“Navi Mumbai is certainly best placed to qualify for the project. We have quality basic infrastructure and the smart city project will help take the city to the next level,” said Sanjeev Gupta, a resident of Vashi.
