CBD BELAPUR: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) wants 500 more public utility plots that the planning agency, City and Industrial Development Cor poration (Cidco) has reserved for the same in the city.
The civic body has prepared a list of 596 plots, which it had earlier submitted to Cidco. Of these, 101 plots were transferred after the Cidco Board of Directors passed a resolution, approving the transfer.
The transfer process has begun with NMMC being handed over possession of around 60 plots in the past couple of months as the planning agency continues to own all land in the Navi Mumbai region.
Over the years, Cidco has transferred around 500 plots to NMMC. NMMC however wants 596 more, to help provide requisite facilities. “The plots that will be transferred by Cidco will be used for the purpose of providing parking facilities, hawkers plaza, community centre and playgrounds,” said an NMMC official.
The estates department of NMMC is now following up with Cidco to get the remaining plots.
“The possession of these plots is very important for NMMC as it will then be able to provide the requisite services and amenities,” said the official.
According to Cidco officials, more plot will be transferred to the NMMC in the near future. “Cidco has been transferring the public utility plots to NMMC on a regular basis. More plots will be transferred soon after completion of the necessary formalities,” said Mohan Ninawe, senior public relations officer, Cidco.
Earlier this month, the planning agency had allotted two plots, one each in CBD Belapur and Kopar Khairane, for the construction of composite schools. The allotment has been made through its policy to allot free plots to the civic body to help the economically weaker, needy and meritorious students of the city get a quality education.
The policy had been approved by the Cidco’s board of directors on May 26 last year was approved by the state government on September 9, 2014.
Accordingly, the plots have been leased to the civic body at a nominal rate of Rs100 annually for a period of 60 years.
“For water supply infrastructure development at the CBD Belapur plot, NMMC will have to pay Rs2 lakh and for the Kopar Khairane plot Rs1,75,000 to Cidco,” said Ninawe.
