The state government on Tuesday declared action against developers who have availed additional Floor Space Index but violated the guidelines of creating parking lots, which was mandatory under the Development Control Rules.
In the last six years it was expected the additional parking lots would pave way for accommodating 41,864 vehicles (two and four wheelers). Instead, till date parking provisions for only 1,434 vehicles have been made.
The Minister of State for Urban Development Ranjit Patil said, “In the next 15 days we will take action against developers who have failed to adhere to the rules and ensure its strict enforcement. If there are some shortcomings in the present rules it would be addressed.”
According to Patil, there are 57 parking lots planned across the city. Of which 29 in island city, 10 in eastern Mumbai and 18 in Western Mumbai.
It was mandatory that first the parking lots would be created and handed over to the BMC by the developers. As against that they would be allowed to avail the addition FSI under DC rule 33(24).
However, if any developer have availed the additional FSI without giving the parking lots, they would face action, he added. The issue was discussed during the Question Hour. MLAs questioned how developers were getting away without implementing the norms.
