MMRDA to build four flyovers to decongest Kalanagar junction : Hindustan Times

MUMBAI: Soon, you may no longer have to manoeuvre your way through Kalanagar junction. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to construct four flyovers and a link road in phases to make entry and exit hassle-free for motorists driving to and from Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and other areas. The MMRDA is likely to float tenders for the project in a month.
“We will first start work on the 1.9-km, two-lane flyover that will cater to traffic going to BKC towards the sealink and on the link road for traffic in Dharavi heading towards the sealink,” said Prakash Mamdapure, chief of engineering department, MMRDA
“We are waiting for the CRZ clearance, which we are likely to receive over the next few days. We will invite tenders in the next one month,” said Mamdapure.
The MMRDA is in talks with the state revenue department for the acquisition of land for constructing the 300-metre-long and 12-feet wide link road.
The MMRDA will subsequently construct the other two-lane flyover, which will cater to traffic moving from the sealink towards BKC. The two flyovers connecting BKC with the sealink will stretch between the southern end of Kalanagar flyover on the Western Express Highway (WEH) and the BKC junction.
The third flyover will start just before the Mithi river bridge on the Sion-Dharavi Link Road, while the fourth one will start before the BKC junction. Both the two-lane flyovers will join over Kalanagar flyover and continue as a threelane flyover before ending on the WEH after Kherwadi junction.
