BMC issues stop-work notices to 32 sites for non-compliance of advisory measures

The  Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued stop-work notices to 32 under-construction sites in the city for non-compliance to a 10-point advisory issued by the civic body earlier this month. The highest number of notices, 19, were issued in the P/North ward (which includes the areas of Malad and Malvani). BMC had earlier asked 2,741 under-construction sites to follow the advisory.
According to officials, the construction companies undertaking the work will have to introduce corrective measures before starting work again. A senior civic official said, “This is a part of the on-going process to prevent the spread of monsoon-related ailments like dengue, malaria and leptospirosis. The ward officials are undertaking routine checks to see to it that the advisory is followed.”
As a part of the 10-point advisory, BMC had asked the companies to employ a medical attendant, prevent water stagnation, maintaining cleanliness in the labour camps, undertake appropriate lighting measures and providing health cards to all the labourers among others.
