Work for Thane Metro will start this year: CM - Hindustan Times

THANE: With the mention of Thane metro in the chief minister’s speech, hope has soared among citizens for the faster mode of commute.

The 87-year-old Town Hall in Thane was inaugurated on Saturday.

The 87-year-old Town Hall is now looking resplendent and is set to open its door to a host of cultural activities.

“The state government is serious about Thane’s development. By the year-end, we will lay the foundation stone,” said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis at the inaugural function of the newly renovated Town Hall on Saturday.

“We have ensured to complete the project on time,” he said.

The route of Thane Metro project is Wadala-GhatkoparThane-Kasarvadavli.

On August 27, Fadnavis had sanctioned Rs35,400 crore for four metro projects. Out of the sanctioned amount, Rs1,200 crore is for Thane metro, Rs8,100 crore for Dahisar- AndheriBandra line and Rs3,300 crore for the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road corridor.

The Thane Metro will have 32 stations.

Fadnavis also pushed for the redevelopment of dilapidated and dangerous buildings in Thane district. “The state government is in favour of.33 FSI and the impact assessment is also ready. The Thane municipal commissioner should submit a report and I assure you of permission within seven working days.”

The .33 FSI scheme will give homes for thousands of residents living in dangerous buildings and the TMC also can earn revenue through the projects, he added.

Meanwhile, NCP member of legislative assembly Jitendra Awhad and party workers waved black flags when the chief minister’s convoy entered Thane.
Awhad and the NCP workers had gathered at Anand Nagar octroi naka at the Easter n Express Highway but the police restricted them from protesting.

The NCP MLA cancelled his dahi handi function after the government imposed strict rules on festivals.

A few days ago, the government had also denied him permission to conduct a symposium on Shivaji at Kashinath Ghanekar Natya Gruha.

An upset Awhad had out up banners about dictatorship in Thane.

“We were protesting peacefully but the police started force without any reason,” Awhad said about Saturday’s protest.
