Ghansoli to come under municipal body : Hindustan Times

CBD BELAPUR: The transfer of Ghansoli node is in its final stage with talks between the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and the City and Industrial Development Corporation ( Cidco) taking place.

Some areas in Ghansoli node have not been developed but NMMC can do little as the area does not fall under its jurisdiction.

Discussions are primarily stuck on the fate of the undeveloped areas of the node. Sources however claimed that a final settlement will be arrived at, soon.
While the city o f Navi Mumbai from Airoli to CBD Belapur falls under the jurisdiction of the NMMC, Ghansoli node had not been transferred.

Cidco started the development of the node much after it developed the other nodes in the city.

There are still some areas in the node which have not been developed.

As a result, residents face a number of problems because of it, but NMMC is unable to take any action as it does not fall under its jurisdiction.

Girish Patil, a local resident, said, “Illegal hawkers have taken over the roads, open plots have been encroached upon, while playg rounds and g ardens have become debris dumping grounds.”

“The civic officials turn a blind eye to the happenings and when residents complain, they claim that they can do little,” he added.

The transfer process has got a boost after MLA Manda Mhatre intervened and held two meetings of the two agencies which ended on a positive note.

Cidco has been saying that it would transfer the entire node to NMMC.

According to a NMMC official, “While Sectors 1 to 9 in the node have been developed, the other areas in the node are yet to be developed. Several public utility plots are lying vacant, while at some places, private buildings are being constructed.”

He added, “However, owing to the sparse population in sector 16 and nearby areas, Cidco has not built roads, gardens and other basic services. The issue has cropped up in the meetings.”
