POTHOLE PROBLEM NEEDS BETTER COORDINATION : Hindustan Times

One of the basic questions about the quality of Mumbai’s roads is why they dissolve into potholes every monsoon (48 special teams to monitor pothole repairs, June 15). One reason is the poor quality of work done by contractors and the second is that there is no coordination between agencies who dig up the roads and those responsible for the subsequent phases of work. Even this year, contractors will fill the potholes with some tar and the patch-up work will not suffice for the whole of the monsoon. The BMC needs to address the problem of potholes more seriously.

- MAYA HEMANT BHATKAR Ensuring that potholes on city roads are monitored is a welcome move. Also, stringent norms need to be adhered to while repairing them. Usually, potholes are haphazardly repaired, which does not help motorists as the work is undone soon. We need accountability and penalties to be imposed for a shoddy job as a lot of money is spent in this venture. Yet, at the end of the day, the average driver still faces a road full of potholes.
