Mumbai :

Amid protests by Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) over the shifting of residents from Dadar, Girgaum and Kalbadevi, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said that the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro rail project will not be scrapped.

“The Mumbai Metro 3 will be built. There will be no change in the policy decision. But some concerns related to rehabilitation of project affected will be positively considered and addressed.”

Sharing stage with Shiv Sena minister Subhash Desai, also guardian minister for Mumbai island city, Fadnavis said Shiv Sena is not opposed to the project, and has only suggested alternative alignments for the Metro corridor to avoid the displacement of a large number of people from Girgaum and Kalbadevi.

“A delegation from Shiv Sena met me today and has suggested some options. We will consider the options proposed. However, the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro will not be scrapped,” the chief minister said.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) will need to shift 261 tenants and 94 shops from 8 buildings in Girgaum, 121 tenants and 173 shops from 18 buildings in Kalbadevi and 8 families from one building in Dadar to construct Metro stations. The state government corporation is exploring options of rehabilitating the residents on the same site.
