Post the collapse of the market building at dockyard road about two years back, the BMC had initiated a structural audit of 30 years and above buildings from November 2013. The collapse had cost the lives of 61 residents of that staff quarters. The structural audit was hence planned to know the status of the buildings in the city and out of the total 3192 buildings with the Estate department of BMC, only 716 were structurally audited. The pre-monsoon list of this year of the dilapidated buildings has declared about 712 private/government/municipal buildings as dilapidated. BMC had listed about 712 buildings as dilapidated, including the private/municipal/government properties. The estate department of the BMC owns about 3192 buildings and has managed to survey above 700 buildings in the city. The BMC has listed 92 buildings as seriously dangerous and in urgent need of demolition The BMC however has just managed to pull down 9 and evacuate 3 buildings so far The repairs of 269 buildings belonging to the estate department will be done by ward office The BMC has also started drives during monsoon to evacuate the dilapudated buildings but as many have court -cases and not willing to vacate the problems persist The BMC has filed affidavits in the court to remove the stay so the buildings can be evacuated, in case of private buildings
