‘Plant trees on godown land, container yard’:Hindustan Times

URAN: The Uran tehsil is going all out to increase the green cover in the area. The tehsil office will plant trees in one third of the land available with them.
In a meeting held recently, Uran tehsildar Nitin Chavan ordered the management of container yards, godowns and other projects in the region to plant trees in 33% of the land available with them. He has asked them to submit an action taken report soon on the order to his office.
With the development of JNPT port in the region, there was construction of roads and industries were but the conservation and protection of the environment took a back seat. Taking note of the situation, the social organisations of Uran had asked the tehsil office to get the business community of the region to plant trees.
On August 11 last year , the tehsildar had called the management of container yards.
They had been asked to plant at least one tree in an area of 1 guntha on Independence Day. With the instructions not being complied with despite the passage of a year, the tehsildar decided to implement the idea properly this year.
“We have issued stern orders that the norms of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board should be strictly followed. The managements have been asked to reserve 33% of the space available with them to plant trees. Otherwise, suitable action will be taken,” said Chavan.
