Blacklisted contractor gets civic tender : Hindustan Times

CBD BELAPUR: Corporators cut across party lines on Thursday at the standing committee meeting and slammed the civic body’s administration over a tender resolution for purchasing equipment for a pathology lab in the civic hospital. The committee members were upset over a part of the tender being given to an allegedly blacklisted contractor.

Corporators alleged that patients at NMMC hospital at Vashi do not get adequate attention and treatment.

The members also alleged that patients were not getting adequate attention and treatment at Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC)’s hospital in Vashi. They claimed that the patients referred to Hiranandani Fortis hospital, with which the civic body has an agreement, also does not provide proper care. Fortis has denied the charge.

Corporators Shivram Patil, MK Madhvi, Ramchandra Gharat, Ravindra I t hape, Shankar More let loose a barrage of questions which the administration was unable to reply satisfactorily due to lack of adequate information.

Standing committee chairperson Netra Shirke then stayed the resolution and asked NMMC health officer Deepak Paropkari to submit all information in the next meeting stating that the resolution would be passed only after the replied were received.

The tender for the equipments was worth Rs55,25,542. A part of the amount was to be taken from SK Surgical and the rest from other contractors. The members however claimed that SK Surgical had been blacklisted by the civic body.

On the contractor, Madhvi said, “The same contractor had supplied expired medicines to the civic hospital earlier. How can he be awarded another contract now?”

Committee chairperson Shirke assured the members that the complaints made by the members will be looked into. She said, “It is quite surprising that the administration proposed to allot a contract to someone who has violated the norms and was reportedly blacklisted.”

The contractor was not available for comment.
