TMC officials said plan to implement project to be ready in a fortnight

THANE: Moving a step closer to building theme parks in the city, the civic chief approved the concept design for the project on Thursday.

Aimed at increasing the green cover of the city, the TMC has planned 21 theme parks. The corporation appointed eight garden and theme park experts to come up with designs for these parks.

A presentation of these concepts was made before the civic commissioner. Within 15 days, a plan to implement the project will be made by the corporation.

Thane has a rich geography with creek, lakes and gardens. It is also popularly known as a green city. However the city lacks open spaces or hangouts where residents can spend their weekends with family.

The theme parks were proposed many times earlier, however nothing has materialised out of the projects.

Sandeep Malvi, public relations officer of the TMC, said, “The civic body now plans to develop the theme parks under the built operate and transfer (BOT) basis so that problem of funds do not arise. These parks will have food courts, entertainment options, amphitheatre, music and game zones for children, sewage treatment plant and waste compost plant among other facilities.”

Some of the themes selected are Angels Paradise, Old Thane and New Thane, Smrutivan, Joggers Park and Bollywood theme park.

The theme parks will come up in areas like 12 Bungalows at Kopri, Lakmi Park at Vartak Na g ar, Jawaharlal Nehr u Children’s Park at Jawhar Baugh, Nana Nani Park at Sawarkar Nag ar, Kavesar, Dr Salim Ali Nature Park at Uthalsar, Kedareshwar Temple Park Lokmanya Pada No 4, Kolshet, Parsik Nagar, MajiwadaManpada, Vadavli, Kharegaon, Runwal Plaza and Vartak Nagar.

“The project will not only i ntroduce new g ardens in the city but will also change t he phase of existing gardens. We will plan various cultural, entertainment and sports related activity for the residents in these parks. The ambitious project will enhance the green image of the city,” Malvi added.
