More than 3 lakh residents at risk, reveals survey :Hindustan Times

THANE: Two building collapses in seven days highlight a larger problem: the alarming number of dangerous buildings in the city and the people living in them.
The number of dangerous constructions in Thane doubled in a span of one year and the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) does not have a policy to rehabilitate the people living in these structures. Last April, around 88,000 people lived in dangerous building, but the number has tripled this year to more than three lakh.
Krishna Niwas was the fifth building to collapse since 2013 and more than 100 people have lost their lives in all these incidents. The issue, however, is still unresolved.
TMC’s survey last year showed that the city has 1,046 dangerous buildings and 88,286 people lived in them. A survey carried out before monsoon showed there are 2,566 dangerous buildings and as many as 3,38,066 people live in these structures.
There were 58 extremely dangerous buildings according to the recent survey, out if which 19 buildings have been demolished, two are in process of demolition, two have been vacated for demolition, one is being repaired, the fate of 21 is undecided and no action has been taken against 13 buildings.
The situation is grim as the number of lives at risk has tripled.
Ashok Bur pulle, deputy municipal commissioner, TMC, said, “Since last year, we have been carrying out a ward-level survey of all the buildings to avoid incidents of building collapses. The number has increased in the recent survey.”
While people continue to die or lose their loved ones, several schemes of the corporation are pending for approval for over ages. The affordable housing scheme to provide houses along with the entire infrastructure such as open spaces, roads, water, schools and playgrounds and the modifications in FSI norms along with the cluster development are pending for approval. There is no immediate solution to the problem.
Chandrahas Tawade, an activist, said, “There is an urgent need to resolve the issue but politicians are busy giving political colour to the incident. Instead of blaming each other for lack of implementation of cluster or other schemes, they should sit together and come up with solution or else people will continue to lose their lives.”

  1. If you are living in the metro city like Mumbai, so without any doubt we can understand that salary is enough to run home and in that case you need to earn an extra income without any much effort and when it comes to that, so it’s better to use your 2 BHK for rent in Kalyan, because Kalyan is the place where you can easily rent your flat to anyone. There is very much positive possibility for the supply of good and new homes which will gush into the market soon.
