`Sort out issues in way of action against illegal Navi Mum bldgs' : The Times of India

Mumbai:
The Bombay high court on Monday asked the state to sort out jurisdictional issues that come in the way of taking action against illegal structures in Navi Mumbai.

The court was hearing a PIL filed by a local resident, seeking demolition of illegal structures in the Digha area of Navi Mumbai. A query under the Right To Information Act revealed that there were 86 buildings of four to six storeys constructed illegally on government land in Digha -56 structures on land owned by MIDC; the remaining 30 buildings were constructed on state and Cidco-owned plots.

The petitioner alleged that due to the different planning agencies involved -CIDCO, NMMC, MIDC, state government -there was always a problem about who would take action. The court said all the planning agencies were empowered under the MRTP Act to take action against unauthorized structures.
