ACTION PLAN IN PLACE - Cidco to conduct drive against illegal hawkers :The Times of India

Cidco will take action against illegal hawkers on footpaths and streets from Tuesday , as per the directions of the court hearing on July 24. A PIL was filed by the Navi Mumbai residents against illegal hawkers. “We will follow the court guidelines and take the assistance of the police flying squad, to begin our drive against the illegal hawkers from July 28,“ said Manoharan Menon, officer on special duty , Cidco.
Residents and commuters in Kharghar and Kamothe areas, which come under Cidco, are facing the menace of illegal hawkers. “They mostly encroach footpaths and streets of Kamothe, Kharghar and other areas of Cidco and the citizens are forced to walk on the roads, which may lead to accidents. We have complained to the officials several times, but they disappear for a short time only to turn up again at the same places,“ said Raghunath Jadhav, a resident of Kharghar.

NMMC officials said that ward officers have already taken action against illegal hawkers in the city .“The civic body has directed the ward officers to undertake inspections of their individual wards and take action against hawkers without licences or those encroaching public places or footpaths,“ said Subhash Ingale, head of encroachment department, NMMC.

Now, even the citizens can complain about such illegal activities on the toll free numbers which have been recently introduced by the civic body for each of its wards, added Ingale.
