LINK ROADS FOR EASTERN FREEWAY WON’T BE READY BEFORE NOVEMBER : Hindustan Times

MUMBAI: If you live in Sion and its surrounding areas and travel to south Mumbai using the Eastern Freeway, you will have to wait till November for proper connectivity to the stretch.

The construction of t he approach roads to the freeway has been delayed again, this time because of the monsoon.

According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Re gion Development Authority (MMRDA) officials, most of the work on the approach roads has been completed, but the asphalting is yet to be done, and can be taken up only once the rains are over.
“Because of the monsoon, the asphalting work will be done in October and the ramps will be thrown open for traffic in November,” said MMRDA spokesperson Dilip Kawathkar.

The construction of these ramps was supposed to finish in December 2013.
MMRDA officials said the construction took time as the area’s marshy land had to be levelled before that.

Once these ramps are thrown open, traffic from Priyadarshini Circle using the Wadala Truck Terminus (WTT) road can take the freeway directly, by taking the 700-m road that will connect WTT road and Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) road.

At present, commuters have to take the creek bridge at Anik Junction and go almost 1.5km in the opposite direction towards Panjarpol, and then take a U-turn under RCF flyover to go to south Mumbai.

If one is coming from Thane using the Easter n Express Highway (EEH), one has turn right at the Chheda Nagar junction to take a ramp on t he Ghatkopar- Mankhurd Link Road (GMLR) to use the freeway.
