Work on Panvel administrative bhavan project delayed further :Hindustan Times

PANVEL: There is no word on when work will resume on the administrative bhavan at Panvel. Work began on the project last June, but it had to be stopped after a controversy over the demolition of the neighbouring Self-help Group (SHG) Bhavan.

The foundation for the administrative building at Panvel was laid last June.
The shopkeepers, who operate from SHG, demanded space in the upcoming bhavan and approached t he l ocal civil court.
The court has ordered that till the time a final decision is taken, the structure should not be demolished.
The offices of Panvel tehsil, treasury, forest department, registrar and police station were earlier located near Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil statue. A proposal was put forward to demolish the old structure and bring all government departments under one roof. The proposal by PWD was approved by the state government.
The project was in the pipeline for nearly 10 years and could begin only l ast year. However, the demolition of the SHG Bhavan led to a lot of problems.
Shopkeepers, who pay their rent as per government norms, have been functioning from here for several years. The have demanded space to set shops in the administrative bhavan.
Panvel t ehsildar Deepak Akde said, “The rehabilitat i on i ssue of SHG Bhavan shopkeepers is proving to be a hurdle in the construction of the administrative bhavan. We are talking to them on the issue.”
“The shopkeepers are ready to withdraw the case from the civil court if they are given shops on gover nment rent nor ms. We have written to the district collector office in this regard and are confident that the issue will be resolved soon and the work will begin,” Akde added.
