The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated the process to appoint a master system integrator (MSI) to design and implement the Smart BKC project by 2017.
Smart BKC will have features like free hi-speed internet for 30 minutes, smart parking lots with electric cars for lastmile connectivity , streetlights with motion sensor, advanced CCTV network and a citizen mobile app.
The request for the proposal (RFP) for MSI was floated on Friday . The MMRDA hopes the MSI, which will design, develop, operate and maintain the smart city project, will be in place by October. An MMRDA official said, “We hope the project will get executed by mid-2016.MMRDA will pay the capital and operating cost for the project.“
Visitors can expect free wi-fi for the first 30 minutes, after which they may have to pay around Rs 30 for the next one hour. MMRDA has decided to opt for BKC-wide connectivity instead of hot spots as this will form the backbone for the smart BKC applications like smart parking, lighting and CCTV feed in phase one of the project. In future, it can have features like smart meters for utilities, intelligent traffic system, air and water monitoring quality meters, besides flood sensors etc. The citizen app will help deliver service online, besides helping lodge complaints etc. TNN
