Bhendi Bazaar revamp ‘shaky’ : dna

Mumbai

The residents of a building in Bhendi Bazaar were troubled when a JCB machine was used to bring down another residential structure in the vicinity. Residents of Sardaria building on Hussainiya Marg said a cold shudder ran through them after their building started shaking when the earthmover began to operate.
Fatima Gilitwalla, resident of Sardaria, who called up the police, said, “The use of JCB to tear down a structure by the Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT) led to trembling of our building.” She went on to allege, “It was being done to harass her as she has been fighting a case against SBUT.”
Sardaria building is part of a group of buildings in the visionary Bhendi Bazaar cluster redevelopment project. The tenants of the building have, however, obtained a stay from the Bombay High Court over their eviction. An SBUT official said, “The demolition of the building is being carried out as per the high court order to the respective government agencies given the dilapidated nature of the building and to protect lives of the people residing therein and pedestrians at large.”
