State to simplify revamp of 3K buildings on collector's land: Hindustan Times

Mumbai, May 28 -- The state government has offered a glimmer of hope to residents of about 3,000 dilapidated buildings on land owned by the suburban collectorate.

Most of these buildings - allotted by the suburban collector in the '60s and '70s - have fallen into disrepair as it is virtually impossible to get a noobjection certificate (NoC) for their maintenance and repairs.

As a result, builders have long shied away from these buildings. Now, however, there may be some hope for their 10 lakh residents, many of whom l ive in fear of their homes crumbling at any time.

BJP MP Poonam Mahajan, who has been agitating on this issue for some time, met chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday.
